ABOUT HOSTEL

  • Check-in3 p.m. – 10 p.m.
    • Please tell us the arrival time in advance.
      If you will change for the check-in, please contact us.
    • Check-in after 10 pm is upon request.
    • Before 3PM., we may not be here. If you need luggage storage, Please contact us in advance.
    • No pick-up service.
  • Check-out: – 10 a.m.
    • Please put out your luggage from the bedroom before 10 am. (Excluding Long-term guest)
    • After Check-out, the use of the common room is upon request.
    • If you will change for the check-in, please contact us
    • We can keep your baggage upon request. But our hostel may close between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Curfew: 0 a.m.
    • If you come back to the hostel after the curfew, please let us know beforehand.
  • Lights out: 0 a.m.
    • The light off the common rooms.
  • Reception: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m., 3 p.m. -11 p.m.
    • Please feel free to make an inquiry below if you have any questions related to Otaru, travel or hostel.
    • In case of outside of service hours, please get in touch with the staff by hostel’s telephone.
  • Break time: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
    • Our hostel may close during a break. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Smoke Free Area in the all room
    • No smoking is allowed inside the hostel. Please use the designated smoking areas available outside. Thanks.
  • Free Wi-Fi
    • Free Wi-Fi is available in the hostel.
      Please refrain from using telephone call in the dormitory rooms (bed rooms).
  • Individual Locker
    • There are free lockers in bedrooms.
  • Dog & Cat
    • Our dog (hug) and cat (momo) are in the hostel with us.
    • They are cute and friendly.When entering and leaving the hostel, the dog often barks for welcome to you, but as soon she will calm down. She never gets bitten. Don’t fear, because she likes you.
    • If you are allergic to animals or dislike dogs and cats, please be forewarned.
    • Don’t feed dog and cat. Please do not play too much with them. (Especially after 10 p.m.)
  • “whoop” Working Holiday on Otaru Project
    • The MorinoKi helper (House Keeper) is to exchange your hostel charge (special price) for work (volunteer) several hours at the hotel. Good for long stay traveler, and Working Holiday Maker.
      This most important aim is “Cultural Exchange.” It is cultural exchange between the helper and the MorinoKi staffs, the helper and the traveler, helper and the local people.Read more →

Bed Rooms

  • Dormitory Rooms
    • Dormitory (Shared room) style with bunk beds.
    • Max. 12 people ( + 2 Extra beds)
    • All room are equipped with a space heater. (No air conditioner)
      No heating charge.
      But it might be a little cold here in winter because it is an old house. If you feel chilly, you can use extra blanket and Hot-water bottle.
    • Above 12 years old use.
    • Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted in the bed rooms. Please mind your manners and stay calmly.

Japanese-style Lounge Room


  • In the summer there is a feeling of opening, in the winter there is a feeling of cozy with Kotatsu.
  • There are many Books and Magazines, Comics, DVDs, Games and Card Games
  • Eating or Drinking in this room is allowed.
  • Lights‐out at 1 a.m.

Dining Lounge with Reception


  • This room next to the kitchen. There is a reception desk, an internet PC for guest, drink corner and, snack box.
  • Host cat (Momo) is usually her.
  • Eating or Drinking in this room is allowed.

Self-Catering Kitchen


  • We have communal cooking facility for guest . (7 a .m. to 10 p.m.)
  • Refrigerator, Gas range, Microwave oven, Toaster, Rice cooker, other cookwares and seasonings.
  • Sometimes rice, pasta, instant noodles, egg etc might be sold at low price.

    • There are basically neither breakfast nor supper. (European Plan Only)
    • There are a lot of restaurants, Sushi restaurants, pubs, etc. near here.
    • The convenience store and the supermarket are also nearby.

Garden & Wood Deck Terrace


  • There are Japan style garden with a pond and wood deck terrace with a hammock. In the summer time you can stay under the sun with good view.
  • Eating or Drinking, smoking is allowed
  • Please Keep quiet at night. Lights‐out at 10 p.m.
  • Closure during the winter.
  • Car Parking
    • Free car parking. Up to 2 cars. Reservation-Only.
    • We might keep your car key.
    • The pay parking lots are about a 5-minute walk from the hostel. Or On-the-street parking in front of hostel is a possibility in summer time.
    • No parking facilities for motorcycle available.
    • No bicycle parking facilities available, but parking is possible on space at the entrance.
    • It may be difficult to secure a parking space during the winter season.
  • Shower & Bath
    • There are one private shower room and one private Japanese Style Bath.
    • Shower room: 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m to 12 a.m. (Bathtub: 7 p.m. – 23 p.m.)
    • Please keep good manners in the common space

    • We have a Washing machine and Drier machine.
    • Open 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
      each 200 yen/time: including detergent
    • Please ask us before using laundry.
  • Laundry Service for long-stay traveler
    • Using Washing net for washing and drying: 300 yen / 1 net
    • Send out the laundry until 10 o’clock in the morning.
      After washing and drying. (Depending on the laundry, it may not dry completely)
    • Your laundry will be returned you after 3 pm. Please feel free to ask about any unclear points.
  • MorinoKi Shop “pooh”
    • There is sundries counter in the hostel. (MorinoKi Original T-shirt and goods, Post cards, pottery goods, accessories, CDs, and books etc.)

    • There are Otaru sightseeing maps, leaflets of MorinoKi recommend shops and restaurants, sightseeing pamphlet, free papers and leaflets of Accommodations in Japan. Feel free to take one.

      10mins on foot (0.8km
      This route contains a steep slope and dark street at night, not recommended in the winter season.
    • JR Otaru station [RECOMMEND]
      18mins on foot (1.4km)
      There are bus terminals for Sapporo, Niseko and Shakotan.
      Easy and fun, but a bit far.
      This route is recommended particularly in winter.

      25mins on foot (1.9km)
